ABI, BEVERLEY

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

DDE were appointed as Principal Contractor and Principal Designer for the project. The works involved the removal of asbestos containing materials throughout the facility complete with an environmental clean, the strip out of all internal fixtures, fittings, overhead cranes, internal walls, external plant, grit blasting bays and extraction facilities.  Works associated with the re-purposing of the former container refurbishment facility, including dismantling and remote demolition also formed part of the project.

PROJECT CONSTRAINTS:

In order to expand production, the client had placed a very tight programme on the works which required the removal of AIB throughout the building and a full environmental clean of all ledges, floors, steelwork and any possible surface where asbestos contamination would likely be present. No damage was to occur to any retained assets and all works were under the strict sign off from the client’s engineer. Due to the client’s specification being a moving target, variations also played a major part during the execution phase; with additional works being included and scoped items from the original tender being removed. Residual hazardous materials were also encountered during the demolition of the grit blasting bay.

KEY FACTS/ACHIEVEMENTS:

The works were completed with zero harm or HSE incidents. Live services throughout the building were maintained during the contract. Commercial and contractual flexibility was maintained throughout the works with DDE managing the client’s budget expectations with timely agreement on variations and exclusions on what was a moving target. Residual shot was encountered during the decommissioning of the grit blasting bay which had retained pyrophoric characteristics. This was recovered, drummed and disposed of in an appropriate manner by DDE and to the satisfaction of the client.

HEALTH & SAFETY PERFORMANCE:

9350 Man-hours works with zero incidents.
